Wish we had sea monsters like on that map that would've been way cool
The sea monster is just creative detailing... the focus of the map is the big-ass whirlpool in the center.

Altough tsunamis ought to be way more dangerous to get caught close to than those whirlpools

Sweden also has surstromming. I think that makes up for lack of natural disasters.

It took me forever to find a clip that didn't have people puking.

I'm not looking forward to to worrying about my friend in Florida...he's usually smart though...he'll get out if it's bad enough.

Definitely turned south a little bit more and looks like it's heading more towards the border of SC and NC. Starting to get a little less defined and wobble a little more. Georgia and Florida should be OK with steering flow being very unfavourable for the sotrm to get down there with any significant impact. Still looks significant for SE NC, but maybe not the intensity that the guidance was suggesting yesterday or the day before.

Curious if any members have any insight about the environmental impact to the carolinas. From what Ive read, they have a long, shallow coastline, combined with other things like a huge amount of pig farms. I know they keep the waste from the pigs in huge open air pits (jesus I can only think how bad that smells) and if those get washed out, it could be devastating.

I also read that there was some legislation that got passed that was negative for the costal environment a few years ago. Hopefully that doesnt exacerbate it.

Climate change is real and super scary.

I wonder how many games owned by non-collectors will be destroyed tonight and go unreported

I live ass in the middle of NC (basically the sweaty grundle of the state during the summer). Only real concern here is about falling trees since the ground is already fairly saturated from the previous weeks' rains.

If you look at a historical list of Mid-Atlantic hurricanes over the last 120 years, this one isn't exceptional; the main difference is the population and level of development has increased markedly since even, say, Hugo. It's going to be a mess to clean up afterwards and I hope most people had the ability to evacuate this week.

28 inches of rain reported at Atlantic Beach, NC within the last 24 hours. Over 700 mm of rain. Holy shit balls.

And to think that Typhoon Mungkhut is almost twice as large!!

I'm fine where I live now but my home town of New Bern is devastated right now. Childhood home on the Trent river is flooded and my dad is waiting it out. Only going to get worse once the inland flooding receeds back out toward the ocean

So far, this storm has been quite "odd" where I am. Just north west of Charlotte, all we've had is a "nice breeze" and cloud cover. Don't get me wrong, I'm not making light of it, but we were definitely suppose to have thunderstorms by now and so far it's been "nice". I'm sure we'll get our share of rain.

For everyone else in the area, just be safe and at least try to stay toward higher elevations. Flooding is definitely a problem but other than on the coasts, from what I've seen, wind hasn't been that bad. I know that's not much consolation for those in the flood regions but at least rescuers and power company crews won't have to contend with to many downed trees and the like, preventing help from getting where it's needed.

Look at the wind speeds during his report!

Anyone that thinks 29 mph and gusting to 48 is hard to stand up in, obviously isn't from the coast

My area ended up very lucky.

I feel for those in the path, as it isn't hard for me to imagine us being in the direct path someday.

I was doing one of my daily tasks at work today and I set up FedEx trucks to pickup pallets for recycling purposes for HP.

Well the recycling facility is in VA where stuff gets returned to and I just couldn't figure out for the life of me why the FedEx freight website wasn't allowing me to schedule a pickup.....I tried it multiple times during the day thinking it was just a website issue.

Finally I just decided to call the place and they are like ohhh you are in a black out area because of the hurricane.

So because of that hurricane I was confused for a little while which I appreciated.

Why don't they just make big fans and blow the hurricane somewhere else. Plus wind power is better for environmental

In the 60s they toyed with the idea of nuking a hurricane to make them go away.

They did a lot of drugs in the 60s.

Update, my location received high winds and lots of rain. In fact, we are still receiving rain, but flooding was minimal and I just have a minor leak in the attice. My hometown got devastated and the majority have received their power back, but no internet, phone, or cable. Still flooding and my childhood home was rocked pretty hard from the rising waters. Haven't been able to speak with my dad yet, but talked last night and he said the water was receding; which is great news. Hope those in the path of the rest of this storm stay safe.
