So anyone in the path?  How's your planning?  As of now, projected to hit the Carolinas as a Cat 3-4 around Thursday / Friday, subject to change.  I'm sure there will be downed trees and power all up the mid-atlantic coast though, not looking forward to it...

Keeping an eye on it, since we are still in the cone of uncertainty, but seeing decreasing probability of us getting hit with each forecast.

A direct hit of a storm that large in our area would wreak havoc since coastal building codes this far up the coast are only to category 1 winds. Not to mention the devastation from the storm surge.

Hopefully whoever it hits is in an area that has hardier building requirements.

Models hinting at it stalling along the coast of NC for several days. Won't be good if they get prolonged heavy rain on top of the high storm surge. Coastal regions will be extremely vulnerable. Wouldn't want to be on the north coast of NC given what the models are currently suggesting.

Pick up cases of water in case power/utilities goes out. Keep the gas tank full. Be ready to go west just in case things hit really hard

Traffic models for my region pretty consistently show that mass evacuation is impossible (i.e. on the order of 3 - 4 days worth of traffic jam on the interstate).

Hopefully those in NC have a combination of more options and fewer people using the roads in that region in the first place.

But access to 3 days of food and 3 days of water, per person, should be the bare minimum prep standard for people on the coast.
(better to have 3 days, at least, of drinking water, and then fill your bathtub to use for cooking/boiling, and more like a week or two of non-perishable food -- since a direct hit from a hurricane is taking down the power grid for at least a couple of weeks)

My home town is near Morehead City. I live near Raleigh now and both areas are predicted to get hit pretty hard. All we can hope for is for this thing to move fast and not linger...but all indications point to this thing hanging out for milk and cookies once it hits land.

For those who like history, they are sizing this one up to Hurricane Hazel. She was not so nice to NC and SC in 1954. Stay safe folks!

I had a friend of mine last year wear a tiger head from a costume and went out during a hurricane and started to punch the air, "fighting off" or slowing down the hurricane for us.

That man's a hero to me. lol

Last year when Irma was threatening Florida, a sheriff's office had to issue a tweet saying "Don't shoot at Hurricane Irma."

Hawaii is also bracing for Hurricane Olivia.

I'm in the line for the storm too. We're stocked up on water and food, we're going to wheel the grill in so that once the storm blows over, and if power it out, we can pull it out and have "steaks for days".

And for those wondering, I moved all of my gaming collection, boxed up, and lined up & down the center-line of the house. I live further west of the coast but Hugo was bad for this area. Even if a tree falls on my house, the games should be safe. History preserved.

So this thing really turned South over the last 24 hours. Virginia and Maryland had already declared state of emergencies in perparation with obviously NC / SC getting the bullseye. But now it is shifting towards SC and even Georgia who hasn't been talked about at all over the last week. Hope those people have time to prepare if it comes their way.

This is why it is always important to prepare if a storm heads towards your coast and general area. Storms are very unpredictable.

Best of luck to anyone affected!

Forecasts have gotten a lot more favorable for my area, for which I'm thankful.

At least we are already prepped for future storms this season.

And still monitoring closely in case it takes a turn back in our direction.
But as of this morning's forecast, our local risk of 50 knot and hurricane force winds have both dropped to zero.
And now our risk of tropical storm force winds are in the 30-40% probability band.

Those are the big drivers for surge predictions in my area, since we'd be north of the storm, so the initial 10% chance of hurricane force winds earlier in the week are what prompted the VA evacuation orders for our zone.

Didn't Ireland get hit by a hurricane a year or two ago?

The sea monster is just creative detailing... the focus of the map is the big-ass whirlpool in the center.
