I understood your poll asking about the PAL copy, I voted to just buy it, but by that I mean ANY legit version of the game. I have the original versions and also tried out a reproduction before I found one for the right price. If it's any consolation to your verdict, the ones I have seen aren't 100% emulated in the sound chip, but I would guess probably +90% of the real deal. It's really counting straws with really good headphones/speaker output at that rate.

I think I can offer a solid opinion on this one. I saved up and bought a PAL Mr. Gimmick cart last year, after waiting a few months to nab one at a price and condition I was happy with. If you are thinking at all about getting one, now is the time to do it. I see three copies on eBay at around $700 + shipping. That's what I paid and that was the lowest price I could get at that time. I got 10% eBay Bucks back on top of it to seal the deal. If eBay runs another one of their 15% or 20% off anything promotions soon, you won't find a better price than that.

Even though it's the inferior version of the game, I'm happy with my purchase. It's become one of my favorite NES games too, looks great on the shelf, plays great, all that good stuff.

(And just because it was mentioned in the thread and I wanna brag a bit, I recently bought an authentic Recca cart too. When the game is SO good, I can't help but have the real deal!)

Money aside, Id take a fake repo over the crippled pal version any day. The pal version is useless other than putting on a shelf. Its about as awesome as probotector or mutant hero turtles.

Wolfman, if you read I already have a repro Gimmick with the expanded sound.

cartman, yeah... my wife... and uh... kid haha.

Nert, im pretty sure it doesnt. Although I dunno why selling my repro copy for a powerpak helps. Its another step down.

Clearly you should keep your repro, buy the PAL version, buy the Famicom version, and buy a Power Pak. Oh, and a Famicom Recca, too.

I vote you should keep the repro and pass on the PAL version. It's a lot of money for an inferior version of a game, IMO. Plus the repro will display just as good on the shelf.

It comes down to how badly you want the authentic cart.

Pretty sure power pak does expanded audio. Mostly poking fun at the ever present na holy war between 'gamers' and 'collectors'.

If you are a 'gamer' the power pak is awesome and the repro/original is pointless.

If you are a 'collector' then the repro/power pak are pointless and only the original counts.

I'm not really sure who the repros are for? People with homemade KISS lunchboxes?

A Gimmick/Kirby teamup game would have been awesome.

Someone make it happen!

If you don't buy it today with the 15% off, you might as well not bother. Or just wait until the next promotion.

My reason is simple. If you cross that line then where does it end?
I've kept things at US only for that reason alone.

If you're referring to PAL, I already have a bunch of PAL games that I really like that work on US systems.  Turrican, Hammerin Harry.  PAL Gimmick is a graphical mess because it was optimized for 50Hz TVs and doesnt correct the timing, ala other PAL games.

You went and did it then. You crossed that line and broke any hope of future rest.

Welcome Mr Gimmick to the family.
