I have a friend of mine that was going full set and decided to call it quits and sell everything.  Out of the GOODNESS of his heart, he decided to give me an AVS!  Thats awesome right?  Even though I thought it was a little ugly, its practicially the perfect NES.  The issue is... theres no reason why now I can't own a legit copy of Gimmick  .  I have a repro version with the full sound mod but if I can get it genuine, I feel like I should have it.  Although I REALLY, REALLY dont want to spend the money on it.  Not that I dont have it, I just kinda dont.  What do you all think?  Gimmick is easily in my top 5 fav games ever.  Do I go big and get the inferior genuine one, or keep the better sounding but fake one?

I had the exact same issue with Recca.

$400 vs a $20 (shipped) reproduction. I went with the reproduction. It's not even the "pure" version of Recca, just the same Recca as the Famicom cart.

At least Gimmick has the full sound as an excuse you can use.

Does the Famicom one not have expansion audio? Or you're saying buy a pal one? Screw that, stick with ntsc

I'm all about having the real. I play my authentic Gimmick on my AVS and am happy I never sold it.

The  famicom version has the expanded sound, which is what mine is based off of.  The PAL version took it out and I think it gives you 9 lives instead of 3?  The games are identical otherwise, except theres some small text in japanese on the title screen.

You spend a lot more than me kid.  I can afford to spend $700 but do I really want to when I arguably have the better version?

Even bigger difference if you want it CIB. I'd only ever buy Recca CIB, so it stands to reason that I'll likely never own it at all in any capacity.

Why wouldn't you just buy the famicom version? The PAL version is garbage (goes for all PAL games in general).

There are tons of Famicom games that I would have a hard time laying out cash for. Heck, even Crisis Force at $90 is a little out of my comfort for cartridge video games, but I may just splurge on it sometime.

Though I do get the dilemma. That Famicom slot on the AVS is a harsh mistress.

Haha I never go on vacation.  Also anyone that wants me to get a famicom version, I wont go that route EVEN tho it can play it.  I just like the look of my normal US gray carts.  I also would like to get some more PAL games in the future as well that I dont have to worry about not working.

Actually im gonna make this a poll.

Even the Famicom Gimmick is a chunk of change. Yeah, maybe you save a couple of C-notes, but it's still up there.

I think if your asking us to talk you out of it, that's reason enough to not get it. Your subconscious already knows what to do but you don't want to listen.

If you feel real good and confident then go for it. But if your hesitant it's probably not the best financial decision to make at least at this exact moment

yeah so get the Famicom one

Pal is lame.

Edit: just noticed you said you will not be getting the Famicom version. I still recommend getting the Famicom version.

I'd say keep your repro or get the Famicom version. Since you don't want the Famicom version, keep the repro.

I almost had my mind made up on buying it, but I kinda wanted a 'second' opinion.  Im in no financial trouble so money isn't the issue, its more like the principle of having a genuine but 'inferior' version.

Whatever the poll ends at ill probably do, even if its keeping the repro.  Altho if someone is willing to sell me a Mr Gimmick for way cheap than I think I could get one at, I wouldn't pass that up haha.

I personally don't want repros in my collection, if you can afford it I would get the real deal especially since you said its one of your top 5. But if you don't want to spend that kind of cash and you're happy with the repro then just stick with that.
