Perma bans don't usually get reversed.

Takes a pretty serious offense to get banned from here, most people smarten up after they get a temp ban as a warning.

It is possible to get unbanned and there is precedence with some users here.

You have to go on a spiritual quest to the Himalayas and receive a vision by Joel. Only with your newfound enlightenment will your ban be reversed.

My son... gives me Helpful Nintendo Hints that are far too complex for the adult mind to comprehend. Here's a verbatim example: "OK, there's Ganon and miniature Ganon and there's these things like jelly beans and the miniature Ganon is more powerfuller, because when you touch him the flying eagles come down and the octopus shoots red rocks and the swamp takes longer." And the hell of it is, I know he's right. - Dave Barry

I don't think they can IPs but they can see IPs of people connecting so they can usually spot when someone makes a second account

Ban lifting is situational, I'm sure. Probably situations that would be too extreme to find an example for. Mostly if someone's banned, they're banned for good reason.

Great example. I was thinking of something a little more absurd, like a case of mistaken identity or a false accusation or something. (I've probably been watching too much crime shows on TV. lol)

I'm sure if it were that extreme, things would work out.

Can there be a thread explaining the reason various long since banned members were banned? Inquiring minds want to know.

What's funny is that people that get banned and attempt to come back tend post the same way that got them banned in the first place, or at least cause deja vu. I've myself spotted two previously banned members that returned.

No. Most can be figured out from their posts though.

Why?  Genuinely curious.

Extra work, I'd guess. And would eventually get out of date like the Hall of Shame did. And could foster drama and complaints.

I used to be on one forum where it was really well done. Mods could probate, ban, or permaban a user with a single click. Doing so would add "USER WAS BANNED FOR THIS POST" [or PUT ON PROBATION, or PERMABANNED as the case may be] at the bottom of the post. Their avatar would be changed to whichever status was appropriate, and clicking their avatar would take you to a page explaining the reason for the punishment (as entered when the ban button was used) with a link to the post in question. The staff could get really snarky about it.  It was awesome, and I'm quite sure that making such a system involved a shitload of custom code (aka time and money). Much drama did ensue in certain cases. Lots of fun, from the sidelines. For the mods, at times maybe not so much. There is only so many times you can explain stupid to stupid.

But first you must be able to summon all 5 pieces of Exodia on him and OBLITIRATE HIM!

Like I said above, unbanning can and has happened. Contrary to some people's beliefs, we don't like banning people and give multiple warnings and many times a 2 week break before a final ban. It's not that tough to play nice here, I mean, thousands of people have no problem with it. Don't scam, and be nice to people. There's a way to give dissenting opinions without insulting others.

Did Tanooki ever try to get back in here? I know they were given a few warnings, but that user use to post like crazy and typically wasn't malicious. Went from one of the most active members to being banned.

A lot of people who've been banned in the past tried to get back here unnoticed. I wouldn't be surprised if Tanooki tried

You clearly didn't read half of his posts. He was one of the most negative folks on here, and never knew when to shut his mouth.

Lol, I can't remember what user it was. But he's been banned before and one of the mods figured him out as soon as he started his first thread. Poof! He was gone again. I got a pretty good laugh and some entertainment from it.

Actually yes, we can and do, both of the above.
