Well for one, Europe tends to work much less than the USA. I would assume that in general, if you work less hours and have more personal time, you would think that you are "happier". In France virtually the entire country takes off the ENTIRE MONTH of August. That must be sweet.

Hell yeah you should, they only work 27 hours a week on average. Wikipedia has them as #3 of #35 ranked countries in terms of the least amount of hours worked a year (Netherlands and Germany are 2 and 1). Mexico is the most overworked... which corresponds with their general impression of being hard workers.
