Selling a batch of expansion port adapters for the original toaster NES.  You get an ENIO EXP board with a 15-pin Famicom EXP compatible header cable.  Selling for $20/each plus $5 shipping via USPS Priority Mail.

Benefits
  • Famicom Peripherals - Use 15-pin Famicom peripherals without hacking up your beloved NES.

  • Cart Audio In - Get that extra audio from the PowerPak and other carts with extra audio without hacking up your beloved NES.

  • Tinkering - You get access to each and every signal on the 48-pin expansion port including all controller signals without... that's right, hacking up your beloved NES.  Want the NES to accept input from your project without wasting controller cables?  This is for you.

I'm really interested in this device, specifically the extra sound channels.

Is it ready to use? Can I simply plug it in and load a Japanese game from my PowerPak to access more audio?

If so, please sign me up for one.

(I've never used this forum to make purchases, so I need details as to how to pay you and tell you my address)

Yes, the EXP board allows a toaster NES to accept extra audio from the PowerPak without modding the NES.  I'll send you a PM.

If you're referring to using the Famicom Data Recorder, I'm afraid I don't have one or any carts that would use it.  But it should work.  The EXP board has been tested with the Famicom keyboard and, if I understand correctly, the Data Recorder connects to the Famicom keyboard.  I'm going off the information presented here...

Sorry, bad pic.  It's a single 26-pin connector that hooks up to the ethernet adapter.  Work in progress.

I can confirm that Audio enhancement aspect is fully functional at least in terms of the FME7/SUNSOFT5 memory mapper chip that Gimmick!(J) uses. After installing ENIO the game had some extra BGM beats that I never heard previously. I don't know the extant of what sound enhancement chips this little board can accomodate. Probably limited to whatever mappers are on my PowerPak. If a passthrough device is used with appropriate Famicom cartridges the sound could potentially be enhanced with more advanced chips like the ones Konami used(?).

The ENIO is a great purchase for those of us that don't have the skill to modify our NES ourselves. So if you've ever lurked on threads describing the procedure with envy like I have, this is the easiest way to get those sound channels for an authentic Famicom/Disk System experience without learning how to solder or importing a Famicom.

Unfortunaly I don't own any Famicom accesories that use the pin connector, nor do I quite understand what else this device is capable of doing so I can't test the other features for myself. Needless to say it's a permanent companion for my NES.

This is awesome. I don't know what I would do with mine, but I want it!

Would it be possible to use this to create s-video output? It's the only idea I can think of right now...

Check out my wanted list. It's pretty big and full of common games!

BTW, got this yesterday - works great for expansion audio, which is the main reason I wanted one. Akumajo Densetsu is awesome now. Thanks!

So if I bought one of these, my RetroUSB Mr. Gimmick will have all the expansion sound?

I just ordered mine! Now, I have to order a keyboard, some Famicom controllers (the two I have are already modded for the NES,) and a Famicom game or two that takes advantage of the expansion sound.

Dropped it off at the post office today, tracking number sent.  Thanks again to everyone who has ordered one.  One of the interesting things is that about a third of the shipments have been international.  England, Belgium, Germany, Norway, Japan and Australia.  I've learned quite a bit about customs forms.

According to the RetroUSB site, this version is specific to the NTSC NES.  It does not appear to have the AY-3-8910 sound chip that the JP version uses.  While I'd love to sell you one, the EXP board wouldn't be of any benefit for this specific cartridge.

Down to (2) sets on hand. Placing a parts order this week, but it will be around 12/10 before I have more sets ready. Have to wait for the parts to get here, assemble the boards and header cables, etc.

EDIT - One set left!

Well I got mine, then I come to find out my 72-pin connector was bad! So after I replaced it, I have to say I am impressed! This is a must have for all Powerpak owners who love FDS games but don't have/don't want to abuse their own FDS. And I tested it with my 3D System and it works perfectly! This is one of the best little investments I have made...now all we need is an NES microphone and the Famicom can be fully emulated on the toaster. Thanks again Pete!!

**UPDATE**  Famicom Zapper works with the board
