Dug some of these out to see if there is interest. I am not sure if these are different than the released versions, but some of them came from an internal Nintendo development studio for strategy guides which has been known to produce some pretty rare finds (Virus was found at this same studio). These are all original prototypes and NOT bootlegs. One was from the original jollerancher find.

Updated 12/31-I have a major purchase I need to make so I am adding more items...if there are SPECIFIC protos you are looking for on Genesis/SNES/NES/Game Boy please let me know and I will let you know a price.

nenson: I know it works, I don't know if it is different, though. The one I had before that I did not know if it was different or not, van_Halen ended up with it and it had a BUNCH of different stuff in it...I just don't play the retails enough to be able to compare/contrast but I know it works

Also, Nintendo published protos seem to be fairly tough to come by. Even if it's spot on identical, it's still worth the asking price.

"It's always amazing to me how some of the most worthless games from a gaming perspective tend to fetch outrageous amounts of money. But then again, it could be said that something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I'm curious if the high bidder of the $873.04 Stadium Events (cart-only) realizes that it's nowhere nearly as rare as about 20+ games I can think of that sell for 1/10th that amount?  At any rate, I wanted to draw attention to this trend: if people say it's rare, it must be true, and therefore it must be had at any price."

Has each single game been tested to make sure they work? And during that testing, would it not at least be possible to have a shot of say the titlescreen? Maybe something to peek curiosity if there were suppose to be a small difference someone might notice.

I dunno, just at these prices I'd think it's the least that could be done. Don't take this as an attack or anything btw

Dude, if Jason says they work, I trust him. And given the number of protos he owns, if he were to start powering up every one to take pics of the title screen, he'd never get a list together. Besides, title screens don't mean shit. I had a Trolls on Treasure Island proto with no discernable difference in the title screen, but HUGE differences in the actual gameplay.

It was just a suggestion. I recommended it because unlike what you're saying the_wizard_666, I don't see anywhere in the post that states they were tested and working, so I assumed they were all just dug out to sell without testing each one. Am I wrong?

Yeah titlescreens might not always show anything unique, but then again as opposed to zero info about anything at the risk of spending so much money, I just thought it a fair piece of advice. I'm just trying to consider those who may end up spending a lot of finding they didn't get anything unique. I mean, at least with a title that may or may not show differences, then you might be able to have an anticipation for what you're getting. Because let's face it, the wording prototype, plus the high prices, will get people thinking it may actually be something that's worth forking out that cash for(i.e differences from final releases).

Take what I say as you will, again just a suggestion I know either way any buyers should be aware it's a risk, just considering the prices is all, thought it only fair...

introless: Prototypes for first party stuff just don't show up and when they do, the prices are high. I wouldn't sell anything that doesn't work, so the games DO work. If I had all the time in the world to check for differences from finals to these games, I would, but I just have too many items to do such a thing. I USED to test for differences and with all the time spent people reneged on deals so to be honest it's just worth it to do it this way for me. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't, but I've had QUITE a bit of stuff released on Hidden Palace and other Sega site for unreleased and very different Saturn and Genesis and 32X stuff, so I can say a lot of my stuff probably is different based on where it all came from, but some may be closer to final. I just can't control that with these types of items, so it is what it is..

Also, (and I am sure most proto owners will agree with me) the rarity for these games are off the charts so there is no price to compare them to. If there is only 1-2 of each of these found, why would the "price" be questionable when there is no valid market? They get taken down "sometimes" on eBay and if they DO run their course you have to be careful HOW you list them, but I don't see any real estimates on prices for these...

I don't have much wiggle room on some of these, but I am willing to go down a little on the DS protos. With as many crazy DS collectors out there, I am surprised more people aren't after these types of games for DS.

I understand not having time to document each game for differences from the final. I guess if it were just me though I'd feel uncomfortable asking for a huge price for something that may just turn up to be a final game, but on a prototype dev board or however you like to call it. The board itself may only be one or two in the world, but what's on it might be the exact same thing everyone's paying only $15 for on eBay everyday.

Well, you see my example. I probably can't argue any further about it, and I know these things end up going on and on usually. Anyways, hopefully nensondubois let's us know of any differences in Mario Kart, if he does indeed fork up for it

Big difference is that the actual dev company put it on there, it's not the same as something people buy on ebay everyday, it represents the final build before production

I'm not buying the SMK Proto only because I hot a smaller amount of money than expected. I would have bought it guaranteed otherwise. I am looking to buy some NES protos though.

People could be hesitant because Nintendo is pretty protective of DS dev stuff. I was told that they will go as far as to press criminal charges on anyone who tries to sell it.

badinsults: It might have to do with unreleased stuff not out, but I've seen my share of DS stuff out there. Either way not to cause any problems I'll withdraw any sales of the things so as to not create an Assembler mess with the SPlatterhouse Namco game that was sold on there...
