Not sure if this has been asked yet. Since Star Fox 2 finally came out today, does this need to be included in order to have a full SNES set?

Definitely not, but it will be fun reading the comments of those who will try to prove otherwise.

Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

I don't see why it would since it was never an official released cart.

I was thinking the same earlier, but quickly came to the conclusion that no, it would not count.

Maybe?

Do digital only games count for modern consoles? If they do then without a doubt you need an SNES Classic to have a complete SNES set.

If they don't count then neither does Star Fox 2.

Id say you need a SNES classic to say you own every SNES console box variant though.

^^ It's not an SNES console, though, because it doesn't take cartridges. It's an emulation box.

Nintendo didn't officially release cartridges of this game so it shouldn't be required for a full set. If they happen to do a CIB run of the game... then maybe.

Not at all. If it was never officially released for use on the original hardware, it doesn't count. At first I was going to say games that were only sold, but I think I personally include officially made competition carts or even items like the Game & Watch Collections for the DS, as part of the official DS set. These games are NFRs by definition and only obtainable through Club Nintendo. They are official though, so they still count since they are DS carts and licensed.

The same would apply here. If Nintendo made 100 Star Fox 2 games and somehow distributed them, even to employees, I'd count it as "official". But, since it was never distributed for use specifically on the SNES, it doesn't count. Instead, it's just an official Nintendo corp. game. You have to have it if you're looking to have a complete set of, well, all games they've released.

The definition is always the same no matter how many times it gets asked.
Q. What is a complete/full set?
A. A set that is defined by one's boundaries.

So If you define a complete set as all retail releases on original hardware, then OP answer is categorically "no".
If you define a complete set as all official games (physical or digital) made intended for original hardware, then OP answer is "yes".
If you define a complete set as "who cares", then the OP answer will likely be "who cares".

Hell no.

What if someone rips the ROM and creates a reproduction cartridge? Still no.

It also doesn't help that it uses the SAME board they used on the Nes mini classic.

I think the Mega Man 9 press kit that comes in a box that looks like an NES cartridge has more of a claim to being in the NES set. At least that physically exists.

Even if it was released by Nintendo on it's own cartridge today I'd still say no.

To add on to this
Does Nintendo consider the game offical? Does it consider it offically released? Do they consider it part of the full snes library now? Does Nintendo have an official say on what a full set is? Does it matter if 500 nintendoage people consider it offical and 501 do not, what if 501 consider it offical and 500 do not. You will hear people argue it every which way and even 5 years from now people will still be arguring it instead of spending that time enjoying their games or collecting.

I Wonder how the sega people people feel about snail maze and a set
Or the PSP Go people feel about games on PSN or Sony people and LRG games

it should count. if it's a real snes game and you can buy it legally, then it should be part of the set. heck, this is even better than the virtual console, the SNES Classic almost like a physical release. It's a box, it has the star fox 2 rom in it, done.

As it is right now, no. There's no official cart. But! If Nintendo officially released Starfox 2 on its own cart with its own box, then yes, it would absolutely 100% be required for a full set. Why is it too late for Nintendo to add to the SNES library? Just Dance 2018 is coming out for the Wii. Officially licensed and everything. Is that part of the official Wii library? Of course it is. "It was released much later than the rest of the library" is a silly excuse for a game to be excluded.

It's hilarious when people make fun of other people for discussing it. We're at NintendoAge for cryin' out loud. People don't come here if they don't like thinking about and discussing Nintendo stuff. If it's a waste of time to discuss it, how big of a waste is it to discuss people who discuss it?

Why would it? Definitely not a retail set.
