I've had this Mario for about 20 years, I've never seen another one online before, I saved it from an Electronics Boutique game store in the U.K. just before they threw it out.
Has anyone else seen another example? He's about 5 feet tall.

Wait. You're in the USA but Mario 64 launched on September 29th, 1996 in the USA. What other game could it have been promoting? IIRC, I got Mario Kart 64 at launch in February of 1997 (pretty close). Next major one was Star Fox 64.

He says he got it in the UK, the release date there was March 1st 1997.

I can attest that there are a lot of members that are from "Alabama" that do not live within the USA.

I'll take a pic of it in a little bit.  I'd love to sell it but no idea what it's worth even in this condition.

Yeah. It just means the member never set their location or something.

The render makes more sense in the context of the Japanese box art:

That's a neat find. I have a star fox assault one that's seen better days i'd love to finish but someone wanted 50.00 alone for the arwing on top. I wish more of us could have saved these things over the years. Especially back when my mom worked at kmart in the 90s.

Alabama is the first state alphabetically, so it's the default

That's actually Shindoh (Rumble Pak) Edition, which my brother happens to be playing right now.

I should have known someone would bother to correct me and tell me that was the rumble pack ready re-release (sounds like a tongue twister waiting to happen).

Thanks for the comments, I've updated my location in my profile now.

I assume there aren't many of this standee left just because most people probably wouldn't keep a piece of cardboard for 20 years!

Interesting to learn the image is from the Japanese rumble pak edition.

He's still in a reasonable condition considering his age, I'll try to keep him that way.

Somewhere in the attic is a more creased Fox McCloud with Lylat Wars branding (as the game was named in the U.K.), some copyright issues with Starfox I think. I will have to dig him out and add some photos.

There's a 3D life size cardboard battle droid up there too from the Phantom Menace but we probably don't talk about that here.

Hi,

Starfox released Lylat Wars due to the name sounding like 'Starvox' when pronounced in German, and Starvox was a German company or something like that.

This standee was, as you mentioned, used for the launch of Mario 64. It was made by THE Games Ltd (Total Home Entertainment Games), the official distributor for Nintendo products at the time, and possibly in collaboration with Nintendo's advertising company at the time, JWT (if they were still working with them..)

Anyways, these come up from time to time, but don't sell for super high prices. I couldn't give you a value, but it's not a lot.
