Has anyone else seen this technique for selling videogames? Do you think these auctions make more than the average one would simply by having a woman holding the game in the photo?

Had a few problems reading your second sentence, but I figured it out [I think]I have noticed this actually. Over the past couple of months I've seen some pretty common games sell for much more than they normally would. Then again people usually buy things they know nothing about for whatever price nowadays. I've seen young girls and women holding the games. Seems like a tactic, but I don't care much for it.

I have seen it...
Shameless.
I have seen women holding game in their cleavage...
I hope they would not make more money because of that...

Ha, I know who your talking about. I really don't think the game well rise in any way for being hold by the opposite sex.

This was covered in another thread a while back, but I'm far too lazy to look for it. I thought what was funny about it is that the game was very obviously added to the original photo. Tits don't sell nearly as well as one would assume. I remember having a table at a comic show a few years back and my now ex-partner thought it would be great to have his girl "use her big tits to help sell copies of [our book]." It didn't do a damn thing. What did help sell the goods, apparently, was me getting drunk at the bar during my lunch break then shamelessly plugging it to everyone I met. Maybe drunk bastards who look like they just walked off the set of Deliverance sells more than breasts?

I've seen many in the past couple of months, I'm not bringing it up now because of something I'm currently looking at at the moment. But it's something I've seen quite a bit with classic Nintendo games. And I'm glad I'm not the only one that notices it. I think it's pretty pathetic, but surely it gets more hits. I was just wondering if the values of these games actually go up to foolish buyers?

I think this is more a practice than specific auctions. Yeah, obviously the auctions that practice this are specific ones, but it could just be discussing the idea behind the pictures as opposed to the individual auctions themselves.

This is now bugging me. I tried to look for it here but cannot seem to find it. Anyone remember the one with the Mega Man 3 cart cropped into the photo of a girl in a bra and panties?

I have seen this tactic / phenomenon / marketing gimmick in several listings, and it's really ridiculous in my opinion. Obviously the seller has the right to market however they want on ebay as long as they don't violate the rules, but I just think it comes across as really desperate and not classy.

I've seen some where a young girl, maybe mid-teens (I'm horrible with ages) held games. I bought a copy of Gunstar Heroes from her because her price was dirt cheap. I haven't seen it lately though. I've never seen the more risque ones people are alluding to here.

I think the girl I'm talking about is probably just a relative of a reseller but I don't mind someone personalizing an auction. Most of them are too short on info or rely too heavily on long winded stock info supplied by Ebay. I want to know the personal history of something. Did you enjoy it, is it clean, does it play well with a certain type of controller, why are you selling it etc..

edit--

I'm not sure if it still shows but this is the auction I bought.

I kind of doubt that it helps a lot as Ebay is overrun right now with games. People can just sort by price. If someone isn't looking for a particular title then yes it could, but if they are really searching then it would just be an interesting diversion before they bid on the cheapest.

I keep seeing these specific "Katie's Sale" auctions pop up myself in completed listings.  I was wondering if there was some reason behind it, like a fundraiser for this girl.  They aren't overtly sexual or anything so I thought there might be more to it.

Some of these auctions, usually with more skin showing, do go for more money than normal. Sex sells. I'd be shocked if this is new information for anyone here.

re: Katie she does better at cute than hot. 10 dollars was the best price by far for Gunstar at the time so she got my money. I've since painted the cart metallic red and made a label for it.

First off, even bringing up the attractiveness of this Katie character kind of makes me laugh since it started out here talking about how ridiculous the whole-- Nevermind.

If I ever have to take a photograph of any items to sell I am going to photoshop them into the original cover of that Blind Faith album. Yeah, Ginger Baker's daughter will be holding whatever I have to sell. It'll not only make me rich but help me find out who all the weirdos are.

It would sell for more money if it was Bea Arthur.
