I'm curious about this game. I finally got my hands on a proto copy of RQ's release.

I tried a few searches on the regular game sites I frequent, but nothing has really come up other than the for sales threads here on NA when it was reproduced.

I would love to know more about the game itself, the prototype found, etc., if you have any info please reply.

I believe the game itself is a fighting game. the game was an exclusive from retroquest aka piko?, it was a one time/were closing deal.

Im suprised this thread has had enough looks, we have several knowledgable prototype collectors here and yet no answers.

Maybe I need to be more specific.

How was the prototype obtained?
Was it ever for sale?
Was it from loose eproms or on a prototype board?
Was the rom complete, incomplete or corrupted when first found?
Was the rom altered for RQ's release?
Was the rom dump publicly released?
Where is the prototype now?
Is the prototype for sale?
Was there ever any issues from DC when this was for sale as a repro?

I've never heard of a Lobo prototype being found, and I have records of over 500 SNES prototypes. I saw an unboxing video of a bootleg of it, so I guess someone did find one. I never heard anything about it, though.

I thought for sure you would know something Evan.

Seems this prototype made it under the radar, and even with a repro release never gained much attention. I find it strange considering how popular prototype collecting has been lately.

Ok, I looked into it more, and it appears that the bootleg was advertised on Nintendo Age a couple of years ago. I would assume that the guy who did it received the binary directly from one of the developers, rather than from a proto cart. I'll try to get my hands on one of these bootlegs and have a look.

The part about the copy protection, makes no sence to me, I put it in my SF7 and copied it to 3 floppies. No issues, no special tools, nothing. So maybe the proto/proto copy was just a dump of the original rom and they hadn't created any copy protection yet. I really don't know, part of why I created this topic was to find out more.

They could be just making stuff up about the copy protection. I doubt the bootleg maker would have gone to those kind of lengths.

...or the game used the same copy protections as many other SNES games. The Bung Professor SF7 and FFE Super Wildcard DX2 handled all of them to my knowledge but earlier units did not. My guess is that someone had a jun copier and saw that message and didn't realize that it was because of SRAM mis-match or something caused by his setup. He/she misinterpreted the message as some kind of message from the people who made the ROM and spread that misinformation to others.

Ok, I got around to making an article. I also investigated the bootleg that was made for the game. I really doubt the version of the game on the bootlegs is actually the final version of the game. It lacks some of the features and polish that were definitely included in the version that Nintendo Power reviewed (and are in the leaked Genesis version).

I'm more of a player and reader than a collector, so take this with a grain of salt:

As a big fan of Lobo comics, when I first heard of this unreleased game I was excited. Then I found out it was a fighter - laziest possible adaptation of this character to video games. A fighter should not be based on a single character, and Lobo exists mostly outside of the main DCU. So what is this going to be? A Lobo game should be a platformer, or an action/adventure game, or possibly an action RPG - fighter genre simply doesn't work for the character.
