...a more understandable concern these days is that newer TVs sometimes lack any kind of analog input for old SD systems with RF/composite.

I'm honestly surprised that a company hasn't looked into manufacturing a retro gaming tv (like a, say 24-28 inch with a build in framemeister) on a large scale with as big as retro gaming is. I mean, the most hardcore spend $320-$400 on a framemeister, why not have Sony or Samsung team and do a tv in that size range with framemeister like conversion for $400-$500 or so.

Probably an issue getting the components cheap enough, securing manufacturing space in a Chinese factory and R&D plus profit margin vs units potentially sold...nice pipe dream though

If you're buying a new console In 2017 you really need a HDMI tv.

Xbox One also requires a color TV set. It's really hard to distinguish menu items on a normal black and white tube. Backwards compatibility really isn't a priority for these greedy new companies.

I've also heard it requires electricity, it doesn't run off whale oil like the rest of my appliances. Major deal breaker.

i  heard the games is not on cartdrige anymore you need to buy some round disk

While I don't agree that modern gaming is garbage, I can think of probably a dozen arguments one might make for it.  However, none of those arguments is because you have to buy an HD TV.

in all seriousness, why is it strange someone doesn't have an hdtv yet? I only got one just recently. It hasn't replaced my tube tv either. this hdtv I got doesn't support 240p over component and composite stuff gets this odd shimmer effect when scrolling, doesn't look that nice. still, it's hard to go wrong with an hdtv for hd consoles.

I tend not to play modern games that aren't somewhat pandering to "retro;" just not interested in first person shooters, sandbox 3D rpgs, mmorpgs... But I do play modern games when they appeal to me. I actually just picked up a copy of Drakengard III, and it will be my first "modern" style 3D game in a while. My analog sticks are still fresh

I don't know what I'm more impressed by, the fact you made it to the second half of 2017 without an HDTV or the fact you didn't know an X1 requires HDMI.

OP, there are down-converting boxes that will take the HDMI signal and convert it into a signal your television will recognize, such as composite or component. That would be a cheaper option than buying a new tv.

Just wait till you try and play a game before its installed. That was a wakeup to me when using the xbox one. Also mebe a switch would have better suited you, no need for modern tv unless you want to and no installing physical games.

Yeah. Switch is perfect for someone that doesn't have an HDTV.

...and even Switch has no analog video output options
