I just spent 300 dollars on an XBOX ONE S and I get home to find I need an HDTV? This is garbage, I'm seriously going to kill someone today. Is there any way to get around this?

Serious? Even XBOX 360 had games with text that was unreadable on a standard def TV (original Dead Rising, IIRC).

i wouldn’t dream of buying a modern game system if you don’t have a display with HDMI or DVI.

Yep.  That is the first game I bought, and how I found out the hard way

I think most people nowadays have at least one HD TV. I think we have 5? And we're by no means loaded or anything.

Modern gaming is garbage because you're too cheap to upgrade your tv?

yeah, that's exactly what you did, without doing any research.

Yeah you can get HD TVs pretty cheap. Do yourself a favor and upgrade.

Do you have a computer monitor with HDMI or DVI?

N64 required an RF modulator + RF switch in 1996, when none of my friends nor myself had composite inputs. Thankfully, a broken VCR still worked as an impromptu RF modulator.

Well, there are terrible HDMI to composite AV converters. These add horrible latency and the picture looks bad.

You could route the composite output to an RF modulator if you want even more horrible video quality.

Route RF through a VHF ohm converter (F-type connector to fork terminals) if you need to. I saw someone do this to demonstrate a modern game running on a black-and-white TV.

Right. No way around it. May as well hook my NES up to an HDTV with RF while I'm at it

There's at least a couple guys here who will agree with you. I suggest you all start a private thread where you complain about how things used to be better for whatever reason. Don't invite me though, please.

My exact thoughts! I'm honestly surprised there are still people buying the newest gaming consoles who haven't picked up an hdtv yet.

I’m surprised there are people without an HDTV period. I haven’t looked recently, but I bet the install base has to be over 90%.

I don't know a single person that doesn't. OP can't be THAT surprised.

I'd agree on almost any negative aspect of modern gaming except this one.

Someone already mentioned it, but I'm having flashbacks to the upset over Dead Rising, hehe.

Xbox One also requires a color TV set. It's really hard to distinguish menu items on a normal black and white tube. Backwards compatibility really isn't a priority for these greedy new companies.

I've also heard it requires electricity, it doesn't run off whale oil like the rest of my appliances. Major deal breaker.

If this thread isn't trolling, it's fucking hilarious! Anyone that can afford an Xbox One S should have had a HDTV for at LEAST the past 5 years, if not even longer! lol

Yeah. This is coming from someone who only had a tiny black and white TV for the whole household until 1995 (very poor).

Yeah. I played through Donkey Kong Country in black-and-white.
