I am really trying to broaden my horizons with my Super Famicom lately.  Can anyone help me with some games that are exclusive releases in Japan only that do not require translation and are pickup and play?  Thanks in advance.

Those are some great suggestions and I would have to echo Umihara Kawase. It is a very simple platforming/puzzle game, but it is strangely addictive and challenging at times. It has a neat grappling hook mechanism which was pretty creative especially at the time.

Watch SNES drunk he has a series of 5 shows where you can see footage of the games.

I would add Gundam SD games, but be careful some are RPG like.

Super Tetris 2 and Super Tetris 3 are nice. Super Gameboy 2 improves on the original, more accurate speed and fixes the missing GB link port.
Gundam Wing Endless Duel for a 2D fighter with pretty graphics. The story doesn't matter that much to kill enemy robots.

A few games like Super Bomberman 3, Parodius 1, and The Firemen have European translations you can use for guidance.

Thanks for letting me know about the European translations.  I am specifically looking for Japan only releases.

A Super Famicom exclusive thread is not complete without me mentioning Little Magic. It's a puzzle game in the style of Adventures of Lolo, and one of my favorite games now.

A few others I think may be English-friendly:
The Violinist of Hamelin
Ghost Sweeper Mikami
Sukke Hakkun

I wanna say yes but I have to double check. I know there's one or two, but not sure if they came out in Europe or not

Edit: yes, Marchen Adventure Cotton 100% and philosoraptor beat me to it

Cotton 100% (for the SFC), but it comes with a mini CD if you want it CIB. There were also exclusives for the Saturn, PS1, Mega Drive, and Dreamcast. There's also a pachinko game for the PS2.

This is a solid list to get started on (despite a couple of them not meeting your "no translation" criteria:-)

Also wanted to add the Parodius trilogy is epic and basically a requirement if you are a fan of whacky Japanese SHMUPs.

The latter two games have Japanese menus, and the third game uses the SA-1 chip to decompress voice samples, but it's not an issue despite the language barrier and does not detract from the gameplay.

Seconded. It is the relatively obscure sequel to Alien Crush and Devil's crush on the TG-16. Same developers.

Also there was a port of Devil's Crush to Genesis known as Dragon's Fury, released under the Tengen label. Dragon's Fury was followed by Dragon's Revenge, but it was developed and published by Tengen, not the original creators of the Crush series.

Dragon's Revenge is good, but as a faux sequel, it doesn't live up to the legacy of Alien Crush and Devil's Crush / Dragon's Fury, and pales in comparison to the true Super Famicom sequel Jaki Crush.
