Blade buster is super fun. Short and sweet but you can spend some time with it.

I mentioned it in passing to Adam (Dra600n) once sometime ago he should try to make one for Genesis. Hope he's still thinking about it. Rest of you brewer's should attempt one too.

Blade Buster is awesome l, do wish it had more to it tho.

Yeah blade buster is the biggest one.

The other great one is Galaxxon: The Third War (with a fourth supposedly existing too)

As for the rest that I know about...

1007 Bolts is a dodging game, but not a shooter per say.

Meteor Guard is kind of like Asteroids, so there is some vertical-ness to it... same with Star Versus

T*Gun is decent, but a bit busy, however it is cooperative.

C*nt Punch: The Revenge of the Harbinger is upcoming by MRN, although who knows when...

Pyxidis is an upcoming one by Electric Adventures (associated with Collectorvision) and should be another great one if it is finished

It's not a vertical shooter, but Roth's The Rise of Amondus is a horizontal one and the best homebrew effort that I have seen in the genre. It falls off a lot of people's radars sue to its connection with The Mad Wizard, since that entry in his larger series is a platformer. The fantasy setting probably throws people for a loop too. Anyways, Amondus is a great horizontal shooter, and it is co-op as well. That aspect is done in a unique and fun way that I have not seen before. One of my favorite NES games period!

Scramble is horizontal, though. It's the predecessor to the Gradius games.

If you're open to repros and not just homebrews, Recca is great, too.

In terms of sliding vertical shooters, 8-Bit XMAS 2013 and Solaris are both good too.

I can't recommend Blade BUster enough personally.

Give it a go, it's only 5 minutes, but once you're hooked, you're hooked.

Still waiting on someone to top my high score.

I will top your high score! It may take me 30 years, but I will do it.

P.S., please don't play the game again for 30 more years. Thanks.

Yeah, IIRC, they/he was originally going to make carts, but then opted not to.

I also remember lancuster bitching about how there should be a starfield, and then bitched about how he couldn't easily hack the rom to add one.

Vectrex should add a game to his growing library called "Lancuster's Revenge"...

I remember the whole process now, also likely why there is no longer a ROM available. lancuster was definitely getting user fired up.

BTW, I have went head to head with Paul in Blade Buster... he is an amalgam! Good luck!

I was hoping that there was something getting lost in translation, since lancuster is Russian IIRC. But part of me thinks he believes he has the right to hack whatever he wants with no consideration for the original programmer.

Yeah I remember that whole thing and I don't know if it was a culture thing, but I think that was his thought process, which definitely rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. Such a weird situation! Either way, I'm glad I didn't miss adding Cyo to my book!

No way! Vertical rules

I met Khan at the emerald coast con. I asked if he was going to make a shooter. I told him if he did I would be first in line. So even if it's a side scroller.... I'll be first in line. Dude is really cool.

There are repro makers who do, it was never officially released on a cart though.  However based on my limited translation abilities, it appears that the programmer/creator was okay with the game being made onto a cart.

I personally have a copy someone was nice enough to put on a cart for me ....
