Ok, I bought this decent looking copy of Super Street Fighter II at the flea market today. Label was in ok shape, I got it cheap. Everything looks perfect from the outside. However, when I play it, the options menu is chinese and the banter between the fighters is chinese. Everything else is english! what is up with this? is this a pirate chinese copy or something? There is no language option to select english

Anyone else run into this?

Photo? If you have a security bit check out the board and post pic, that's always the sure way to to tell if it's a pirate

That's Japanese, not Chinese. I'd say you got a Super famicom pcb inside a US shell

Ok thanks. Why would someone do that? Cheaper? And does anyone have a spare US pcb they would be willing to trade

Yeah the Super Famicom titles are often cheaper, not sure if this one is. I know I've seen people on eBay selling famicom pcbs in custom SNES cases before. Megaman (Rockman) titles are like half the price on famicom vs snes. That's definitely a legit board you have. At least there's nothing you need to read in the game, like in an RPG!

Yeah I guess it only makes it hard to set options and understand the VS statistic screen. Oh well. It would be better to have the US copy

That may or may not be a Famicom copy. And a variant from this.

It is a Japanese rom chip, but the PCB may be different, I have compared both copies, but was unable to source a scan of the Famicom Super Street Fighter II PCB... (I kept forgetting to bid on one on ebay)

In comparing my SNES Street Fighter II board to my Famicom version, the PCB are different.

I was hoping that this version would be uncensored, like the Genny version but it was not.

A shot of the Genesis version, with blood, removed in the SNES release

queue...variant collectors trying to source a copy

I think this is a known issue with some copies of this game where it's actually the Japanese (not chinese) rom in the cart. I haven't seen one of those to verify against yours, but the board and components look spot-on official.

Personally I'd just keep that one since it's a neat thing. But next best choice would be sell it and buy another one. You could put it on ebay as a factory error and probably get more for it.

The board looks exactly like that in my SFC cart btw.

The bundle I posted comes with the Famicom board in a SNES cart. Could you post a scan of your board Lincoln?

I'm going to guess someone swapped the SFC board into a US shell for whatever reason.

Thanks for the help. Those boards look like they are the same. I have no history on this cart, so it's hard saying how it ended up with the sfc board
