So I got the kazzo programmer and some INL boards, and they are amazing, definitely reccomend them over trying to make repros with donors. Super easy and affordable. I am trying to make a buddy a Star Ocean though and it is the only game that has given me problems.. Here is what I have done.

Got a Star Oean ROM
Applied the translation
applied the 96mbit patch
removed header
used software to write to board
didnt work
got dissapointed
switched to LOROM
also didnt work... damn
cried a bit

Any ideas?

Since it sounds like you have done this before, I am assuming you are erasing the board beforehand. I have not done a Star Ocean board yet (only have a 4 meg board so far), but going through the nesdev thread for the SNES boards it sounds like at least one other person has reported issues with Star Ocean and the guy responded with e-mailing him directly for help.

I've been trying to figure this out as well. On the NESDEV boards it said that the boards can't handle that game's format is because it is typically interleaved, and the current firmware release only works for de-interleaved roms. he mentioned the next firmware release should fix the issue.

I tried making a few different patched roms, including starting with a raw dump from the original SFC and dumping the retro zone release and no avail. So far only this and crimson echoes have been problematic. Everything else worked great.

I've made several. You're correct, you need the de-interleaved rom. Took many emails for me to figure it out. I have the correct rom file, but I think NA would frown upon me distributing it.

Ok. Hopefully I did this right. Here's the xdelta patch:
https://app.box.com/shared/static...

You need to patch the original JP Star Ocean (no translation, non-expanded). With the patch, you'll get the translated interleaved rom.

The jp star ocean should be exactly 6,291,456 bytes. Let me know if it works, or if you need more info.

I forgot to mention, Paul (the guy from INL) also told me that the erase roms included in the Kazzo package don't fully erase a 12/16 mb board, and that you need a different rom to do that.

So, here's the erase bin:

Well, if I try with a different rom the xdelta give me a crc error, so I assume I'm using the correct japanese rom.

But when applied, the new now only has 2,8mb in size and the header is corrupt.

I can make a correct patch but I need the correct rom before.

If anyone can help me, pls PM me.

I got the plc268's rom yesterday and it's the expanded rom, but not de-interleaved

I can't test it because I don't have kazzo programmer yet, but the xdelta is here:

https://www.mediafire.com/?awp13x...

Pls ignore the readme file.

That rom will work. I've used that exact rom several times to make working Star Ocean carts.

Between pic268's erase rom and gorillazero's firmware and deinterlacing (or interlacing, cant remember) I got it working. Awesome.

Now to figure out what I am doing wrong with Crimson Echoes, haven't played around much with that yet though.

Hello everyone, this is my first post on here so hopefully you guys can help. I've had the InfiniteNESLives 12MB v1.1 SNES board for awhile and I've gotten a lot of translated and hacked games to work. But I've been trying to get Star Ocean to work but can't seem to get it to work on my SNES. I've tried de-interleaved, interleaved, uncompressed and many other ways of flashing it but nothing works. I know it works on the 12mb board but can't figure out why. I've even tried on a few different SNES systems I own. Can someone help me. Thanks

Here is an xdelta patch needed to convert a Non-Headered "Star Ocean (Japan).sfc" rom (CRC-32 3DBDFDBF) for a ready to use file with the INL board and Kazzo programmer. The GUI will give you a message of it probably not working, but it will work. Once patched make sure you set board to the HI rom position, NOT Lo rom.

https://mega.nz/#!FIwxkCCL!tRbdBh...

The patch was created and tested by me, though Paul from http://www.infiniteneslives.com... sent me the original rom to make this work.

The xdelta program can be downloaded from here http://www.romhacking.net/utiliti...

Make sure you have the kazzo program from here https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com...

and update your Kazzo with the firmware provided inside the zipped "retro-prog Release-02-15-14_3" folder and use the GUI provided there as well.
